A High resolution Total Solar Eclipse

March 29th 2006 Manavgat - Turkey

All pictures are taken on the roof of  Saray Regency hotel in Manavgat. Thanks to all the nice people working in this hotel for helping us get the most out of the Solar Eclipse.

This my first opportunity to view and photograph a total solar eclipse and at the same time use the DSLR to webcast "live" pictures to Norway and the rest of the world..

I was asked to join the trip to Turkey to webcast  the total solar eclipse for www.astronomy.no. My hope was to use the DSLR camera to transfer live pictures to Norway. I found no programs  that could use the DSLR as a webcam, so I made my own macro that use existing programs already installed on my computer to resize and transfer the images on to the web server. One picture was uploaded every 25 sec. The resolution for this webcast was 800 x 533 pixels, heavy traffic on the web server was the restrictive factor limiting the image size.

This page is best viewed in 1600x1200 or higher resolutions. All pictures taken with Canon 20D

The author and his setup on the Hotel roof. The cardboard box contains the laptop. The LCD screen on most laptops is to bad to be used in the sun and needs shade. Note the MiniBorg 45ED with Coronado Solarmax 40 filter behind me for visual use.
